NAUTILUS AD185 Series

High-solids Organic-waste Recycling System with Electrical Output

The NAUTILUS is a larger-scale version of our HORSE. It’s a living system that converts organic waste into energy and probiotic plant food with zero waste.

In 2019 we launched the NAUTILUS, 185 Series Bioenergy System. This larger system is still entirely pre-fabricated to minimize risks related to permitting, sitework, schedule, and weather delays. The system can be configured with larger waste and energy capacities, as well as strategic energy storage for off-grid disaster preparedness. The system can include waste recycling, energy storage, generation of heat, hot water, electricity, drinking water, and food production. To see the NAUTILUS in action, visit our Videos page.

Multiple Benefits

Gas storage is included to allow daily energy production to match peak demand patterns. We can configure both the energy output and the organic matter output to maximize economic, environmental, and social value. Power can be prime power, heat, hot water, electricity, lighting, or RNG (compressed natural gas) vehicle fuel. Organic matter can be produced as liquid, emulsion, compost, fertilizer, or dried pellets.

Leadership in Engineering

Our underlying magic is biomimicry – using nature to lower our anthropomorphic impact on the natural environment. We use naturally occurring microbes to convert uneaten food into new resources and value. The creativity we added to this magic is to miniaturize this well-proven biochemical system into a small, portable, self-contained module. The concept of portability and prefabrication significantly lowers the cost, development time, site work, and risk for customers who want to do something about their sustainability profile.

A Living System

Our team has found a way to build a device with multiple ‘stomachs’ in series to replicate how an animal digests food. It is a living system that requires no more knowledge and sophistication than what you might need for maintaining an aquarium.

Urban Compatibility

We’ve engineered the system to be compatible with tight urban environments that require an attractive enclosure and exceptional odor control. We have removed the opportunity for leaky dumpsters, insects, birds, and animals to help themselves to uneaten food waste.

Sustainability and Economic Performance

The energy generation rates are designed for up to 555,000 BTU/hour in a simple system. Organic feedstock input rates go up to 5,000 lbs. per day. Gas storage is included to allow daily energy production to match peak demand patterns. Feedstock preparation, power generation, output separation, and odor control are included. The 185 Series empowers our customers to achieve energy sovereignty and utilize their energy resources to the fullest potential.

Maximum Energy Production 111,000 - 910,000 BTU/hour

The energy production starts at 111,000 BTU/hour continuously, and is expandable to 555,000 BTU/hour.

Organic Input 1,000 - 8,200 lbs/day

Organic feedstock input rates start at 1,000 lbs. per day, and are expandable to 5,000 lbs. per day.

Organic Matter Output 815 - 6,600 gallons/week

Produces 815 - 6,600 gallons/week (3,100-25,000 liters/week) of liquid organic fertilizer.

The Impact Bioenergy Advantages

We understand that communities and organizations are seeking more sustainable and affordable sources of energy and methods of waste diversion. The best solutions are located at the source, yielding the greatest economic and environmental impact.

Our systems are ideally suited to small to mid-size communities, campuses, and commercial generators of organic waste. The 185 Series offers continuous distributed, either base load or peak load energy, reducing reliance on power transmission across the landscape, and providing energy independence and security.

  • An ability to reduce disposal, recycling, and energy costs simultaneously
  • Minimal space requirements using onsite or local community based systems
  • Quick deployment to replace diesel/petroleum gen sets – and easily expandable
  • High Performance Visual and Environmental Performance – especially on odor
  • Onsite electricity and heat generation, or other forms of energy (lighting, hot water, etc.)
